Last Week of Season at Briar Ridge

This past Sunday we finished the deer hunting season out. It wasn’t a scheduled weekend so we just had a couple of people up. We ended up with three children and five adults. It was just a weekend with family and relaxing.

We all got in Friday night, or early Saturday morning and we started out Saturday morning with a hunt. Saturday evening, we had a doe down and one very happy first kill. Sunday morning, we headed to church and it was a great service. Sunday afternoon we had two kills with two very happy little boys.

The best part of the weekend was the message. The pastor preached on Jonah. You see our life is all about choices. Do we choose to listen for God’s voice would be the first thing. The book of Jonah starts with God speaking to Jonah. That’s pretty much when our life really starts to, when we start listening to what God is saying. God was giving him a job. And that is our second choice, will we do what God is asking us to do? The most important things in life are choices, to obey or disobey. God is speaking to us, whether we are listening or not. You have a purpose and he has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 says “I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Your choice is to either be obedient and follow his plan, or to be like Jonah. To disobey, to run the other way, to whine and complain about his plan, but we must realize his plan will be fulfilled whether we do what we are called or not. Our disobedience actually just makes it more difficult for us. Running from God’s plan for your life just brings you down. It brought Jonah down, down to Joppa, down to the bottom of the boat, down to the short straw, down to the bottom of the ocean, down in the belly of a big fish, and finally down on his knees in repentance. You see it was a long trip around, but God still got his way. He wants to have his way in your life as well. Please listen for his voice and when you hear it, I pray that you have the strength and faith to be obedient. Our prayers for his will in your life.

Love in Christ,
